Initiation of the National Stop TB Partnership
Who took the initiative to promote the partnering process to build a National Stop TB Partnership? When did it happen?
The establishment of Stop TB Italia dates back to 2004 when a group of specialists in Pneumology, Microbiology and Infectious diseases involved in TB health issues pooled their efforts to make things get better. In a high income low burden country such as Italy, TB was considered a disease of the past, by now not to make a point of. Originally Stop TB Italia had been working under articles of Association giving priority to social activities such as advocacy and communication, so making people aware that TB has never vanished at all. Over the following two years the Association grew and now comprises 78 ordinary associates, 4 members of the Steering Committee and 3 of the Scientific Committee. In 2006 the Association shifted its own Statute to ONLUS that is an Italian acronym which means Not Lucrative Organization for Social Utility. Ever since, new activities have been put in place besides advocacy and communication all aimed at the financial support of newsworthy projects oriented to TB control, prevention and basic research wherever possible.
It would be useful to clear soon that Stop TB Italia Onlus is not a public partnership funded by public funds from the National Health System or any Ministry: it is a private-funded association whose funds come from private donors. No link between Stop TB Italia and national government.

Stop TB Italia is a private ONLUS, a private association, independent, apolitical, not religious and recognized by Italian authorities whose purpose is strictly related to improve TB control from all point of views: diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control. All people involved come from different fields of expertise.

No relationships in terms of public funds or public control on association’s strategies.
