Policy
Columbus County Health Department will provide vaccine to interested individuals per protocol. To receive vaccine individuals must be ages 11-55 years of age. There will be no charge to patients who receive this vaccine. However, patients must meet the state guidelines to receive the vaccine (See Protocol Attachment from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Division of Public Health).
Purpose
Administered to help prevent and protect against bacteria (Neisseria Meningitidis strains A, C, Y, and W-135
Procedure
Immunization is administered IM in a dose of 0.5mL preferably in the deltoid. Nurses should follow information provided on package insert when administering the immunization (See Attached Link). https://www.vaccineshoppe.com/image.cfm?doc_id=11177&image_type=product_pdf
Contraindications
Immunization should be deferred during the course of any acute illness
Anaphylactic or Allergic Reactions:
Epinephrine injection (1:1000) must be immediately available to combat unexpected anaphylaxis or other reactions.
Revaccination
The need for, or timing of, a booster dose of Menactra has not yet been determined.
Patient/Parent/Guardian Information
Vaccine information statement (VIS) from the US Department of Health and Human Services Center of Disease Control and Prevention and National Immunization Program is given to the patient/parent/guardian. (See attached VIS link).
