One of the great dynastic families of Europe, The Habsburgs, ruled the Austro-Hungarian Empire from 1279-1918. We will travel to their Imperial cities of Budapest, Prague, and Vienna to see their grandeur. In the two cities of Budapest we will visit the Habsburg Royal Palace on Castle Hill in Buda, walk across the famous Chain Bridge to Pest and see Heroes Square, St. Stephens Basilica and the Great Synagogue. In Prague, the cultural center of Europe long before Paris, we visit the Prague Castle, St. Vitus Cathedral, the oldest synagogue in Europe, and walk across the famous Charles Bridge. In Vienna, we visit The Hofburg, the Habsburg winter residence; Schönbrunn, the sprawling summer palace with its magnificent gardens; several museums including the Museum of Fine Arts, which is worth a visit just to see the marble interior décor, and of course, the music of Mozart is everywhere.
