IN
OUR 5th GRADE CLASSROOMS
Welch Elementary staff will
work with students and their families to support students’
success in the West Virginia College and Career Readiness
Standards for all content areas.
Family connections: Lessons
will include real world situations for application of content
introduced. Lessons
are designed to use prior information from previous grades and
Everyday Math units. Make
myself available for extra help or one on one activities during
planning time, lunchtime, and when available after school. Students
will have the opportunity to work with peer tutors upon need and
availability.

FOCUS
AT HOME
Welch Elementary staff and
parents worked together to develop ideas about how families can
support students’ success in reading and math.
Key at-home activities:
Make
sure that each child completes their study/homework every night. Work
with children on vocabulary expansion. Practice
at least one math problem per night of division with a 3-digit
dividend and a 2-digit divisor. Practice
finding common multiples of one digit numbers and all common
factors for numbers up to 99.

Goals: Welch
Elementary School will increase by 3% the number of students
scoring at a proficient level in math and reading on the 2020 WV
Statewide Summative Assessment.
Welch
Elementary School will promote a culture of high expectations and
positive relationships by increasing the average as measured by the
relationship measures on the Spring 2019 S3 climate survey.
What
is a School Parent Compact?
A compact is an agreement which
outlines how the parents, the school staff, and the students will
share responsibility for improved student academic achievement, and
the means by which the school and parents will build and develop
partnerships that will help children achieve the state’s high
standards.

Goals: McDowell
County Schools will increase the percentage of all students in
grades 3-11 who are proficient in English language arts by 2%
annually and mathematics by 3% annually through high quality
instruction utilizing WV's College & Career Readiness
Standards, as measured by 2019 WV General Summative Assessments
results. McDowell
County Schools will increase parental engagement opportunities
by 3% to strengthen partnerships between home, school, homeless
shelters, and communities as measured by My Learning Plan
parental involvement documentation for the 2019-2020 school
year. McDowell
County Schools will improve school climate by promoting a
culture of high expectations for staff, students and parents
through positive relationship building during the 2019-2020
school year as measured by school culture parent survey question
10b (2% increase), improved attendance (2% increase) and dropout
rate (.5% decrease), and fewer discipline reports (3% decrease
in out-of-school suspensions).

The parents, staff and students of Iaeger Elementary School have
worked together to develop the School-Parent Compact. Meetings
will be held each year to revise the compact.
