Actions

Mental Health Awareness day

Bernard informed the group that he had lots of messages to say it was effective. There was a lot of hard work arranging it and thanks to all that were involved. 70+ people attended. All positive comments. Nicky from Age Concern has been invited to attend the next PPG meeting. It was noted that 6 stall holders didn’t turn up. Everyone felt that the banners outside were very effective as were the leaflets that were handed out in the street.

There will be a joint PPG meeting at the next Northbourne PPG meeting which is being held on 25th November at 6.00pm. This will be regarding Urology. Hopefully there will be time to discuss time to talk about doing other joint activities.

Shelia will make sure Northbourne PPG has everyone in our PPG email addresses, everyone gives consent.

Church View Surgery status and current concerns

Terri raised some concerns regarding the practice management at the practice, with the Deputy and practice manager being on maternity leave. Hazel said that they have a part time administration assistance in place of Paulina and the Doctors have a Locum practice manager in mind for Hazel.

Practice Nurses – Terri asked how many hours of practice nurses there are since Georgina left? Hazel confirmed that they have Diabetes Nurse 10 hours, rest is practice nurses. Terri said there was one patient concerned as they were diagnosed as pre-diabetic from another healthcare organisation and they are having to wait 4 weeks to see a nurse.

Hazel explained that the surgery has a system in place to ensure anyone diagnosed in the surgery received pre-diabetes information.

Health Centre update – Terri asked now we have a new community centre, what updates are there on getting a new health centre. Hazel confirmed that there have been no new updates.

Newsletter

All PPG members think the newsletter is a good thing for patients.

Can we add the newsletter to other letters that we already send out?

ACTION: Hazel to contact Yvonne

From the patients

Marjorie raised a list of concerns she has received from the patients:

  1. Worried about having to wait 3 weeks to see their GP

Marjorie did explain to them that they can use the Duty Doctor.

  1. Unable to use Patient Access, so put prescriptions in the surgery box.

Marjorie said that quite a lot of people have had issues with this system. Bernard says that it states the status of your prescriptions, so you can go online and check where in the process the prescription is.

ACTION: Patient access – patients cannot book more than 3 appointments (patients had 3 appointment slots with nurse but then cannot book and appointment with Doctor – patient access)

  1. Would like prescriptions to give their name when they answer the phone.

This was discussed at a practice meeting and this was not agreed.

  1. Worried about the heavy workload their GPs have.

  2. Worried about future of NHS and lack of home care and hospital beds. Had beds at Worthing but these closed because of pressures at A&E.

  3. Where to go for convalescent care or will they have to pay for a care home stay. Marjorie explained that yes that they would have to pay.

ACTION: Can we ask Howard what the CCG’S rationale for community beds for the future is?.

Flu clinic

Marjorie and Anne will assist at the next flu clinic. They did ask if we could get a height chart In the waiting room

Next meeting

Howard will not be able to make the next meeting. The Group requested that another GP attend and or Howard writes a report for the group.

Dr Carl Walker

Shelia informed the group that Dr Carl Walker will be speaking at the St Peters Hall tonight regarding NHS concerns. Save the NHS service.

CCG AGM

Terri attended the CCG AGM which was interesting. Positives included the mental health services have greatly improved through imaginative resources. Using other service ie Mental Health Nurse goes out with the police and are being treated as MH patients, early intervention is working.

They received an apology for the MSK service – it is now back in full negotiations with the NHS hospitals in the area.

Talk of end of life care, which is being redesigned. They are in the fact finding stage at the moment. Looking at the discharge of vulnerable patients (between hospital and home). A lot of talk about fact finding, nothing concrete to say about that they will do in the future.

Barry asked what is happening if you need to see MSK now? Terri explained it is the same as previously. They want to make the service so patients are seen in one day rather than attending several different appointments. Bernard feels that we are owed an apology for this.

Terri has put her name down to sit on the Networking group for PPG members for the CCG. Meeting for PPGs to share ideas, is there anything you want me to take to them?

Bernard – are PPG’s still being treated as a legal necessity/will they take notice of our groups.

Date of Next Meeting:

Friday 18th December 2015 at 12:30pm in Shoreham Health Centre
