Class Piano
Instructor: Mrs. Carolyn Priebe
To become a pianist or improve piano skills
To learn some music theory or improve upon present knowledge base.
To gain some knowledge of music history and the various genres of music.
To compose some original music
To gain an understanding of music technology – software, hardware and synthesizers
Keyboard skills will be graded every week. Effort, work accomplished and quality will be assessed. Overall attitude and class participation are also important and taken into consideration. Approximately four – five times per trimester, a performance will be given for the class. Students will be graded on the level at which they entered the class – beginner, intermediate or advanced.
The final exam will consist of a performance and a music theory quiz.
Music theory software programs will be used to learn music-reading skills. Various listening activities will be covered. A short quiz will be given periodically.
Every student will have the opportunity to compose some music compositions or lyrics during the semester. These compositions will be composed using Sibelius and Garageband.
Extra Credit
Extra credit is available upon request. The deadline for extra credit is two weeks before the last day of the marking period.
Supplies
1 or 1.5 inch three-ring binder
10-20 sheets of lined paper to keep in your binder
Two sharpened PENCILS with erasers. Pens are not acceptable.
Classroom Rules
Leave all supplies not needed for class in your locker
No gum, food, or candy. Doing so will result in a lower daily grade.
Water bottles may be brought to class. No sports drinks, pop, etc.
Phones and other electronic devices should be left in a locker or deposited in Mrs. Priebe’s cell phone holder at the beginning of class. Use of a device during class will result in confiscation of the phone and a Saturday detention.
Teacher Expectations
Students will come to class prepared for class. This means that assigned music is present and the student has completed any homework or practice assignments.
Students will present themselves humbly and encourage one another often.
Students will set weekly musical goals
Students will follow all instructions, class and school rules, and piano classroom policies as given verbally or in writing.

June 15: trimester 3 final exam (Music Theory and Playing)
