ISSUE BEFORE THE BOARD: Approval of travel for Commissioner of Community Colleges.


BACKGROUND: The State Board of Education in May 2007 agreed to approve the Commissioner’s out of state travel. Each month the Commissioner will bring forth travel for that month or quarter for approval.


The attached travel matrix is for out of state travel planned for the Commissioner for January 27-29, 2013; February 10-12, 2013; February 12-14, 2013, March 6-9, 2013 or March 13-16, 2013 (date yet not determined); April 1-3, 2013; April 19-23, 2013.


RECOMMENDATION: Approve Commissioner Camille Preus’ travel as attached.

The opening day will be of briefings on federal education and workforce policy funding. The second day will be spent with Oregon state’s congressional members on Capitol Hill.

The Commissioner has been invited to attend the American Association of Community Colleges 93rd Annual Convention regarding Bridging to Excellence, Reimagining the Community College

The Commissioner has been past chair of the NCSDCC and routinely attends this Spring meeting. It is critical professional development that the Commissioner works with other state directors to learn best practice strategies to navigate in these challenging times. This meeting also connects to the Commissioner’s membership on the Rebuilding the American Dream Steering Committee.
