Minutes of the May 3, 2010 meeting

  1. The Meeting was called to order at 6:02 P.M. Compliance with the open meetings law was verified. Members present: Marcia Mercier, Joan Whitehurst, Bev Vaillancourt, Jim Brandt. Excused: Josh Ziegler, Tim Helgeson, Dave Fuhrmann. Motion by Jim, seconded by Marcia to approve the agenda. Motion Carried.

  2. Motion by Jim, seconded by Marcia, to approve the April 5, 2010 minutes. Motion carried.

  3. Public input – Bev noted that she has received three complaints about the new buoy placement. She explained that she and Joe Prantner will be responding to concerns as they arise. Marcia noted that she had received 300 DNR boating regulations books and had distributed many of them to the marinas for distribution in boats as they are returned taken from storage. Jim Mercier noted that a wake boarder swamped a fishing boat on Lake Redstone.

  4. Bev reviewed the lakes pages on the town website and asked the committee to provide ongoing suggestions to update and improve the pages. The 2010 buoy ordinance has been posted on the website.

  5. The DNR has approved the emergency slow no wake ordinances for Lake Redstone and Dutch Hollow Lake. Both will need to be officially adopted at the next town board meeting.

  6. Bev received an email from BoatU.S. Foundation that the grant application had not been funded, but that we were encouraged to reapply next year. The Foundation funded 12 grant requests nationwide.

  7. The sign structures for the boat landings are being worked on by Reedsburg Area High School students. The signs are being created by Tim Henke. All should be in place by the end of May.

  8. A discussion followed concerning regulation of the boat landings : no swimming/no fishing signs posted/ closing the landings with the exception of boat ingress and egress at 10:30. Town chair Cal Brey noted that he would prefer any ordinance that regulates the boat landings be incorporated into a new buoy ordinance for Dutch Hollow, but questioned if this is possible. Jim Brandt questioned the need for additional regulations. The committee asked Cal to ask Joe Prantner to chart boat landing incidents on to report that information to the Lakes Committee for ongoing discussion during the summer.

  9. The next meeting will be on June 7 at 6:00 p.m. Discussion will include a review of the boat landing issues, the Dutch Hollow buoy ordinance, and an update on boat landing signage.

  10. Motion made by Jim, seconded by Marcia to adjourn. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 7:21 P.M.
