EVGENY KANAEV

Evgeny Kanaev is Doctor of Science (History) and Professor at Department of International Affairs, National Research University Higher School of Economics, Moscow, Russia. He is also a Leading researcher at Center for Asia Pacific Studies, Institute of World Economy and International Relations, Russian Academy of Sciences, a Leading expert at ASEAN Center in MGIMO-University, Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Apart from it, he provides expertise to Russian International Affairs Council, Russia-ASEAN Business Council and Russian government agencies with focus on Russia’s policy in Asia-Pacific.

Prof. Kanaev’s area of research embraces current political and economic processes in individual countries, security challenges, with a special emphasis on the maritime dimension, economic and security regionalism in East Asia and Asia-Pacific. Special attention is paid to problems and prospects of Russia’s policy in Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia and within regional multilateral dialogue platforms. He contributed to more than 100 journals, books, conference proceedings and analyses in the Internet published in Russia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam and European countries.

Prof. Kanaev participated in a number of international projects organized and co-organized by National Research University Higher School of Economics, IMEMO RAS, ASEAN Center in MGIMO University, Moscow State University, Council on Foreign and Defense Policy (Russia), Russian International Affairs Council, Russian APEC Study Center, CSCAP Russian National Committee, Institute of Oriental Studies (Russia), Diplomatic Academy (MOFA of the Russian Federation), Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (Singapore), Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, Vietnam’s Lawyers’ Association, Japan Institute of International Affairs, Center for Strategic and International Studies (Washington), China Institute of Contemporary International Relations, Jeju Peace Institute, Lingnan University (Hongkong), Korea Institute for Maritime Strategy, Sea Lanes of Communication (SLOC) Study Group – Korea, Indian Council of World Affairs and other think-tanks and universities. Also, the projects included those chaired by ASEAN Secretariat, Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in the Russian Federation, Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Russia-ASEAN Business Council, Rostec State Corporation, the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

In 2012, Prof.E.Kanaev participated in the research "Strategy of Trade and Investment Cooperation for Russia - ASEAN Dialogue Partnership”, commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.
