Description:
The purpose of this course is to provide our student-athletes with valuable knowledge and tools that will aid in their transition from high school to college. This course will focus on initiatives of the NCAA’s Student-Athlete Affairs department: Academic Development, Personal Development, Service Development and Career Development. It is our goal to fully develop our student-athletes in key areas to lead them to success.
Course Objectives:
To provide students with key skills necessary for success in a collegiate environment
To empower students to take a leadership role in their development
Be able to apply effective decision-making models to enhance their academic, athletic, and personal development
Be able to identify critical issues faced by student-athletes and where to seek appropriate campus and community resources
Attendance:
ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED. Absences due to team travel are excused, but must be cleared prior to your departure.
Classroom Etiquette:
All use of a cell phone is prohibited.
No sleeping, excessive talking, or class disruptions
No food is allowed in the Team Meeting Room
Active participation is required
Out of Class Requirements:
There will be several events that you will have to attend that are outside of class time. Those events and dates will be announced well in advance so that you can include them in your schedule. Throughout the semester, you also will have to attend the following:
2 Non-athletic Baylor and community events
2 Athletic events other than your sport
2 Hours of community service
1 SAAC meeting
Other Mandatory Scheduled Events:
Monday, September 16th- Mandatory Speaker, 7 pm, Ferrell Center
Tuesday or Wednesday, October 15th and 16th-Etiquette Dinners, 6:00 pm, 135 Prime
Friday, December 6th- Santa’s Workshop, 9 am-Noon, SLC Basketball Courts

You will receive a letter grade for this course based off the following:

Please write the name, date and one sentence description of 2 non-athletic events you attended this semester.
Examples could include events such as: music and theater fine arts productions, Place 2BU activities, Freshman Slime Night, Homecoming events other than the football game, visiting a campus museum, etc. Basically anything other than a sporting event could be included in this category…..I simply want you to experience Baylor (other than workouts and competition) and students (other than the teammates you see 24/7.)
