CHECKLIST FOR PLUGGING GASOLINE OR DIESEL FUEL TANKS
Approach using Snohomish County Hazardous Materials Response Operating Guidelines ( Appendix “A” )
Assess need to plug the leaking container ( size, type, rate)
Use appropriate PPE for the product involved ( See Quick Reference Guide )
Remove all possible ignition sources
Contain leaking fuel ( bucket, absorbent )
Perform defensive actions as needed ( diking, damming )
Establish emergency decon using Appendix “B” ( charged hose line )
Dry Chemical extinguisher manned during plugging operations
Prepare plugging material as per manufacturer’s recommendations
Avoid contamination of turnouts
If contamination is unavoidable use a Saran/Tyvek suit over bunker gear
Collect and bag all contaminated equipment used during the evolution
Make proper notifications as per department policy ( DOE 360-649-7000 )
