GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POST
Under the direction of the Business Manager, the postholder will be responsible for duties covering security, heating, lighting and (as directed) the cleaning of premises, for porterage, minor repairs and maintenance, and general duties of this kind associated with the support of the premises for the purpose for which these are designated. Working hours may be subject to variation and call‑out at weekends and unsocial hours will be necessary from time to time. The following will give guidance on tasks that could be expected to be undertaken and the frequency that they should be undertaken.

The postholder will operate within a small establishment and could, at some time, undertake any of the following duties:
1. |
To attend to the opening and closing of the premises at designated times and to be responsible for general security at all times. In this connection, the postholder may be called out in unsocial hours or at weekends to deal with security problems. |

To meet and attend to all contractors visiting or working on the site during post holders working hours & during holiday cleaning periods |

To provide a porterage service on the site, as necessary. |

To oversee, as instructed, the efficient working of heating plant and lighting, monitor fuel consumption and re‑order where necessary, keeping required records. |

To read meters, as necessary, and maintain approved records including any concerned with energy conservation matters. |

To undertake specified indoor cleaning duties, including the inside surfaces of windows up to 11 feet (3m) from floor level where necessary. |

In respect of specified cleaning:
a) sweep/weed foundation stage area, ensuring all play equipment is stored away as required by the class teacher. |

b) keep all computers, printers and peripheral hardware dust free, ensuring that monitors a clean and smear free
Vacuum all Keyboard and Workstation Towers paying special attention to fronts where DVD/CD/USB are inserted. Vacuum behind and around Workstations paying special attention to fan vents.

c) keep the staff room tidy, overseeing the emptying of the dishwasher and restacking of plates etc. |

f) vacuum all books and bookshelves in classrooms, offices and library ensuring that shelving is clean and dust free. |

7. |
To undertake repairs and maintenance on furnishings and buildings against the recommended list in the Caretakers Manual |

To keep paths, access points and entrances free of snow and ice to ensure safe passage. |

Health and Safety complete a daily check of the building, school grounds and field and pick up animal fouling every morning. |

Keep all grounds and field litter free. |

To ensure that recycling is carried out as per establishment requirements. |

Ensure Contract Cleaners are aware of areas where clubs & meetings are taking place |

Periodically, to clean lamp shades and light diffusers, taking account of instructions given on working at heights. |

The reporting of defects in buildings, furniture, fittings and plant as required by regulations or the instructions of the Business Manager. |

The replenishing of soap, towels, toilet paper to all lavatories on the site, as necessary. |

Maintain adequate stocks of caretaking and cleaning supplies (for areas which are the responsibility of the school), and to re‑order through the Business Manager, as necessary, in accordance with procedures. |

With regard to lettings, to carry out security duties and associated cleaning up at least two occasions per term‑time (12 weeks) and one weekend in four. (i.e. 15 occasions in total per academic year) |

Carry out the following testing procedures as per current Health and Safety Requirements: (a) Fire Alarm Testing - Weekly (b) Legionella Testing - Monthly (c) Emergency Lighting Testing - Monthly |

Ensure that Caretaker Risk Assessments are up dated with Business Manager |

In respect of contract cleaning:
(a) providing access to the premises to the contract cleaners within approved times when required |

(b) in the event of a suspension of contract cleaning, to supervise any direct labour cleaners engaged by the Establishment;
