Subject: OSWMDs Update – AVSF Improvements
This Fact Sheet describes the latest improvements to the Partial Sedimentation Austin Vault Sand Filter (AVSF) and time frames to get the improvements incorporated into projects.
August 2008 Structures began an engineering analysis that included reducing rebar and concrete quantities (i.e. more efficient design), preparing a cost estimate tool, and adding small vaults into the Metric and English AVSF drawings. Obtained a 20% cost savings due to the modifications.
August 2009 began incorporating new designs into projects. Placed new plans and cost estimate tool onto OSWMDs intranet site.
September 2009 OSWMD met with District 7 recommending the inclusion of the AVSF improvements into projects not yet constructed.
Benefits:
The AVSF improvements are expected to be a 20% cost savings.
The cost estimating tool will save the Project Engineer time in preparing quantities for the cost estimate. Accuracy of quantities calculated will also increase.
The inclusion of the small vaults into the AVSF plans increases efficiency by allowing the Project Engineer to look at one set of drawings instead of looking at two.
Potential constraints:
None.
