Argument Exemplar: Same-sex Marriage
Please draw a diagram representing the following argument using arrow () for inference and numerals for the labeled propositions.
Same-sex marriage should not be a legal right. (2) The obvious reason is that homosexual behavior is immoral. This is so because (3) it is unnatural. (4) Even if homosexual behavior were morally permissible, recognition of same-sex marriage would encourage such behavior. (5) Most parents do not want to see their children become homosexuals. Also, (6) one of the functions of marriage is for procreation. Given that (7) same-sex marriage can never result in procreation, (8) same-sex marriage cannot fulfill this function of marriage. In addition, (9) once we allow homosexuals to get married, they will also acquire the right to adopt children. Consequently, (10) the children will not grow up in a normal family. Finally, (11) recognizing same-sex marriage will threaten one of our core values, that is, the value of family.
Evaluate the truth of each premise and see whether the premises support the conclusion.
