in the Residence Halls
Residence Hall Microwave and Refrigerator Policy
The following are allowed in student rooms:
One microwave per room. Microwave cannot be larger than 1.1 cubic feet and must have a cooking power of 1100 watts or less.
One refrigerator per room. Refrigerator cannot be larger than 4.0 cubic feet or with more than a 1.2 amp electrical draw
One MicroFridge unit is allowed per room. These units may be purchased or rented through the Refrigerator Leasing Company www.rentalcompanyone.com
Students may have a stand-alone microwave and refrigerator that meet the size requirements in their room, or they may have a MicroFridge unit. They cannot have both a microwave and a MicroFridge. They cannot have both a refrigerator and a MicroFridge.
You are encouraged to contact your roommate(s) before moving into the residence hall to determine who, if anyone, will bring or acquire a refrigerator, microwave, power allocation device or MicroFridge.
Stand-alone microwaves and refrigerators must be plugged into an amperage overload protector. This device allows only the microwave or the refrigerator to operate at one time. One such device is the Avanti AC-3 Inn Control (Model AC-3) http://avantiproducts.com/index.php?page=products&id=8 .
The amperage overload protector must be plugged in directly to the wall outlet.
All electrical devices must be Underwriter Laboratory (UL) approved. The use of extension cords is prohibited.
Students violating College and NY State fire regulations will have the items confiscated and will be sanctioned through the campus judicial system.
Students causing electrical problems such as blown circuit breakers or damage to the electrical outlet will have the items confiscated and will be sanctioned through the campus judicial system and may be charged for repairs of the damage.
Students not following all the guidelines for the use of microwaves and refrigerators in the residence hall will have the items confiscated and will be sanctioned through the campus judicial system.
