Opening Program #2

Used March & April, July & August, November & December

Opening Programs change on the odd months, and Habitat Programs change on the even months. Because of this, the program is never totally new. Children, at this age, feel more comfortable with familiarity. Each of the two opening programs contains a welcome song, a poem, a clock song, and opening prayer. Then there is a bell fingerplay and song. The poem, In God’s House, is the same in each program, followed by a mission and offering song. Then the program reviews a core belief (either Creation and the Sabbath, or the Second coming and heaven). The last song, B-I-B-L-E, is used in both programs, followed by a Bible fingerplay and class dismissal poem. The elements in red are also used in the Cradleroll program.

Song: A Greeting and a Welcome Song

Good morning, good morning, we've come here today,

To study, to worship, to sing and to pray.

We greet you, we greet you, we ask you to stay,

To join in our worship, on this Sabbath day.

Finger Play: The Old Clock (Motions)

The old clock's hands go round and round, Make circling motion

As slowly as can be. Continue slowly

I watch it when the Sabbath comes, Point to Self

It tells its time to me. Point to wrist

God’s Sabbath is a special day, Point to heaven

My Bible I will bring. Hands together, palms up

I always want to be on time, Point to wrist

So I won’t miss a thing. Shake head “no”

I listen to the tick tock tick, Cup hand to ear

And I can hear it when,

It’s time to go to Sabbath School, Move feet as walking

The clock hands say it’s ten.

Song: Tick-Tock Song Activity: Sticks

This is what the clock says, tick-tock, tick-tock.

This is what the clock says, tick-tock, tick-tock.

This is what the clock says, tick-tock, tick-tock.

Come to Sabbath School on time at ten o'clock.

Song: Get Ready to Pray (Use song cues to get into prayer position)

I will bend my knees, I will fold my hands,

I will bow my head, I will close my eyes,

And very, very quiet be, while the prayer is said.

Fingerplay: The Church Bell Motions

Listen! Do you hear the bell Hand held to ear listening

And the story that it tells?

It hangs high in the steeple Arms above head forming steeple

Calling to all the people Arms head wide

Tis the holy Sabbath day, Hold up seven fingers

Come to church to sing and pray. Hands as book, then hands in prayer

That is why I sing my song, Hands as book

Ding-dong, ding, ding-dong. Swinging motion as bell.

Song: Sabbath Bells Activity: Ring Bells

Ring-a-ling-a-ling, ring-a-ling-a-ling,

Sabbath bell are ringing.

Ring-a-ling-a-ling, ring-a-ling-a-ling,

Children sweetly singing.

Poem: In God’s House

When we go into God’s House upon the Sabbath day,

We go to hear His Holy Word, and sing His praise and pray.

We must not run about or jump, we do not scream or shout;

We want to listen quietly, and tiptoe in and out.

In Sabbath School we sit with friends, our Memory Verse we say.

In Church we sit with Mom and Dad, it is our family’s way.

We listen to the Pastor speak about our Father’s love.

We want to learn His plan for us, to live with Him above.

Song: Jesus Loves the Little Children (Use Children of the World)

Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world.

Brown and yellow, black and white all are precious in His sight.

Jesus loves the little children of the world.

Song: We've Brought an Offering (Have children bring up offering)

God has dear children in every land,

Who do not know of God's love for them,

We want these children to love Jesus too,

We've brought an offering to our Sabbath School.

Poem: The Sabbath Day

Of all the days in all the week, I love the Sabbath best.

God gave me six whole days to play, the Sabbath day to rest.

Every week when Friday comes, there is much work to do,

For it’s the preparation day, for hearts and houses too.

The Sabbath starts at sundown, every Friday night.

We welcome Jesus to our home, with family worship bright.

Oh, Sabbath is a happy day, and though I like the rest,

I’m very sure of all the days, I love the Sabbath best.

Song: We Get Ready for the Sabbath

We get ready for the Sabbath, on Friday, on Friday.

We get ready for the Sabbath Friday is a busy day.

Song: Happy Sabbath Activity: Wave Happy Faces

Sabbath is a happy day, happy day, happy day.

Sabbath is a happy day, I love every Sabbath.

Song: The B-I-B-L-E

The B-I-B-L-E, yes that's the book for me.

I stand by faith on the word of God, the B-I-B-L-E.

Finger Play: My Bible (Motions)

I love to hold my Bible, Make Book with hands

A gift I dearly prize.

It’s God’s holy word to me Point up and then to self.

My Father great and wise Hold arms wide

I want to read my Bible Make Book with hands

A letter from my Friend Point up

For when I’m a bit older Hold hand to show a taller child

I’ll read it to the end. Make book with hands

Poem: Class Time

Bible Story time is here,

And quickly walk will we,

To our lesson tables,

To hear God's word for me.
