This course is an introductory physics course. The course will emphasize problem solving, critical thinking, and laboratory skills. Students in this course will take the Regents exam in June.

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS

    1. Follow all Manhasset Secondary School Rules

    2. Come to class prepared and be in your assigned seat ready to begin class when the first bell rings

    3. Cell phones should be off and away throughout class

    4. All work, homework, classwork, tests, labs and projects should be a student’s own work

    5. Students are responsible for recording daily homework assignments in planner

    6. Be respectful towards one another and do not talk while others are talking

    7. Follow all safety guidelines including keeping all aisles clear of backpacks

    8. Mature, responsible behavior is expected of all students

    9. NO food or drink in the science classrooms

    10. Students are required to regularly check the class website for important announcements

Quarter 1 = 20% of final grade

Quarter 2 = 20% of final grade

Regents Exam = 10% of final grade





Tests/Projects 60%

Labs/Classwork/Homework 40%



HOMEWORK

Will be given and checked periodically. Points will be deducted for incomplete or missing homework.


NYS REGENTS LAB REQUIREMENT:

    1. The lab requirement is 1200 minutes of satisfactory laboratory activities.

    2. The Regents Physics Exam will count as 10% of the final course grade. Students who do not meet the lab requirement are not permitted to take the Regents Examination and will receive an F on the exam. This is a high school level course and will appear on the student’s high school transcript.

    3. Dates:

      • All labs must be submitted by June 5th in order to receive a lab grade

      • One week before the Regents exam is the last day to submit a lab to be used to meet the lab requirements for the June 2019 Regents exam.

    4. Missing Lab Assignments:

      • Arrangements to make up a missed lab assignment must be made within one week of the absence.

      • Lab assignments from previous quarters may be submitted to fulfill the lab requirement but not for a grade.

    5. Students will maintain a lab notebook / folder throughout the year that will remain in the classroom.


EXTRA HELP: By Appointment


EXTRA CREDIT: There will be no extra credit or extra assignments in this course.
