  1. PURPOSE





To carry out the collation and validation of the collision data for the Department for Transport, the Partners and Analysts statistical uses. To act as the liaison between the Partners, Department of Transport and Police Officers for data related queries. The validated collision data is used as the basis from which all education, enforcement and engineering schemes will be decided upon, therefore it is vital that the information supplied is accurate, consistent and compliant with Department for Transport Stats 19 requirements.

  1. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

To import the collision data from the Dorset Police Niche database.


To ensure all collisions reported, captured and validated in Niche and then imported into the Accsmap system.



To control, check, verify and validate the collision data on Niche and investigate any missing data fields by contacting Police Officers to obtain accurate information.


To ensure the data captured is consistent, accurate and complete.


To be the first point of contact for the Partners, members of public and Police for collision related queries.



To ensure continuity and accuracy of data.


Continuously re-visit each collision to ensure any changes are captured and updated. To ensure that each collision has a contributory factor relevant to the collision applied.


To ensure the data is accurate and up to date. To decide based on the information in the collision description, apply a suitable accurate contributory factor to aid analysts in collision reduction.




To update the validation logs on Niche and re-import into the Accsmap system.


To ensure the audit trail of collision reporting is accurate and traceable.



To process the collision data in accordance with procedures and in accordance with the Data Protection Act.


To ensure that personal sensitive data is treated with integrity and not released.


To use Police National Computer (PNC), Niche and other systems to investigate the details of collision data.


To investigate and query the collision data to ensure the data entered is accurate.



Write Structured Query Language (SQL) queries to query the collision data and to disseminate and export the validated collision data to the Department for Transport, Partners and Analysts

To ensure the Department for Transport have the required collision data from Dorset to use on a national level. To ensure the Partners and Analysts have the collision data for analytical purposes for Education, Engineering and Enforcement.


Using the Geographical Information Software (GIS) and all information researched, decide on each location for the collisions, map the collision and create mapping layers.

To ensure each collision is correctly placed according to the description and ensure the mapping layers are up to date and the most current.



To input camera enforcement data into spreadsheets, create reports and collate speed indicator/survey data.


To ensure monthly reports and spreadsheets are accurate and the reports published are clear and concise.



Using the Highway Code input collision data accurately taking into account street lighting, road layout, junction priorities and laws of the road.

To ensure any potential engineering requirements are highlighted to the Analyst in the first instance and then forwarded to the Local Authorities.

In some posts this might include the ad-hoc provision of guidance and informal training of new colleagues.

8. TERMS OF APPOINTMENT


The commencing salary will be with Scale C: £17,763 rising by yearly increments to a maximum of £18,993


Office hours are 0840 to 1700 hours Mondays to Thursdays and 0840 to 1540 hours on Fridays, with 40 minutes for lunch. The office is closed Saturdays and Sundays.


A flexitime system is in operation within the department.
