Plaques are important in recognising the achievements and impact of the local government with regard to appropriate community infrastructure. They also provide important historical data and context for future generations. Where appropriate, plaques should recognise the original inhabitants of the area and their custodianship of the land.
1. Requests for the preparation of plaques shall be initiated by the Chief Executive Officer or the Mayor.
2. Requests for the preparation of plaques, including draft wording and other supporting information are to be submitted to Council’s Communication Task Group.
3. Council’s Communication Task Group shall consider such requests and shall approve:
The size and type (materials) of plaques;
Wording;
Background information;
Preferred layout; and if required,
The proper placement of plaques.
Identification of Council facility;
Date of Opening;
Who opened it;
Moreland’s slogan and logo;
Funding recognition (if applicable); and
Other relevant information.
5. Any old or existing plaques should not be replaced or removed without the consent of Council’s Communication Task Group. (c/- A-DES 8.11.99)
