Meeting Minutes

Indiana Communications Users Group

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

  1. Call to Order

    1. Doug Cochrane, Communications Analyst – Sr. for the Integrated Public Safety Commission, called the meeting to order at 4:30p.m. Audience members were various public safety officials attending IPSC’s Annual Statewide Interoperable Conference.

  1. Users Group Vision

    1. Mr. Cochrane addressed audience members with the concept of a Users Group. Some of the most common questions asked are regarding radio buttons; templates; site trunking; setting up dispatch centers for failure, etc. A statewide users group could work as a team to solve these issues using different concepts and ideas.

  1. MTUG – Motorola’s National User Group

    1. Mr. Cochrane explained that a state users group could form subcommittees to mirror that of the MTUG and include both voice & data users. A membership would not be required, just as MTUG does not require a membership fee.

    2. Some of the benefits that MTUG provides are discounts, training, resources and networking. National officers are made up of an executive committee. Regional directors here in Indiana could be a “pipeline” to MTUG.

    3. Two things would need to be done in order to establish this users group:

              1. Form a Chapter governance to include a President, 1st Vice President and 2nd Vice President

              2. Adopt a set of by-laws

    4. Any questions or concerns need to be directed to Mr. Cochrane.

  1. MTUG Benefits

    1. Mr. Cochrane introduced Connie Allen with Motorola to the audience. She described some of the various benefits of MTUG, including their yearly meetings that are held in conjunction with APCO. Product development and contact with upper Motorola management is a plus, as well as networking opportunities and interaction with peers.

    2. Ms. Allen said that Motorola is also working on format changes using more webinars and tracking progress with new tools such as a scoreboard & dashboard, both of which the technical and executive committees use. This helps with motivation.

  1. Future Accomplishments

    1. As the Regional Director, Mr. Cochrane asked the audience if quarterly meetings would be possible. One audience member suggested meeting at the state APCO meeting. Mr. Cochrane suggested that the next Users Group meeting for Indiana be next March.

    2. The MTUG website will have an Indiana section listing user group meetings, as well as offer quick access for assistance and connection among members.

    3. Audience members recommended the Bloomington ISP Post as a possible meeting place as well as during an IPSC Commission meeting.

    4. Mr. Cochrane enquired about any presentation ideas in which an audience member suggested subscriber product usage.

    5. Mr. Cochrane then asked if site trunking plans were in place and if anyone needed assistance with this task. He also explained that the hardware key will be a requirement after radios are touched by rebanding.

  1. Adjourn

Hearing no other business, Mr. Cochrane adjourned the meeting at 5:15 p.m.
