1. Many variations exist within species. For example, some humans are taller than others; some giraffes have longer necks than others.




2. All organisms compete for the resources they need to survive.




3. Organisms can produce more offspring than can survive given the quantity of resources available.







4. Organisms that are fit and better able to deal with changes in their environment tend to survive and reproduce, passing their desirable traits on to their offspring. This is known as “natural selection”, or “survival of the fittest”.
