Working with compressed files and folders in MAC OSX using Archive
Step-by-step instructions
Unzip an Archived (".zip") file or folder
Archiving files and folders creates a copy of the items in a compressed file. Archived files take up less disk space than uncompressed files, so archiving is useful for making backup copies of your data or sending information over the Internet as an email attachment.
Control-click on the folder you wish to compress using Archive.
Select Create Archive of "(filename)" from the menu.
Locate your zipped file. The newly created archive will have the same name as your original file or folder, ending in ".zip" and denoted by a "zipper" on the icon.
Unzip an Archived file or folder in MAC OSX
To open a compressed (.zip) file, simply double-click on the folder and an expanded copy will be created in the same location, with the same name.
