MISSION

The mission of your POD site is to dispense as many pills or administer as many vaccines to the greatest number of people as safely and efficiently as possible. As part of the Staging Area Strike Team, you must ensure that the Personnel and Volunteer Staging Area operates as smoothly as possible to carry out this mission by:

  • Directing all pre-registered volunteers (e.g. ARC, CERT, MRC) to sign in on the appropriate sign-in sheets

  • Handling the intake and registration of all staff and volunteer participants in an orderly and timely manner

  • Providing all staff and volunteers with appropriate vests and exercise materials at the time of sign-in


UNIFORM

Dress appropriately for the job you are assigned to do and comfortably for the season. A color-coded vest will be issued to you at the Personnel & Volunteer Staging Area (PVSA).


IMMEDIATE ACTIONS

  1. Sign in at the Personnel & Volunteer Staging Area (PVSA).


  1. Receive and put on POD Staff ID badge and vest.


  1. Receive your staff packet, which may include:

  • Job Action Sheet (JAS)

  • Organizational Chart

  • POD Staff Assignment Map


  1. READ YOUR ENTIRE JOB ACTION SHEET.


  1. Refer to the “POD Staff Assignment Map” in your packet to locate the area at the POD where you will be working. Follow the POD signage to your assigned location.


  1. Synchronize your watch with your Staging Area Group Supervisor.



INTERMEDIATE ACTIONS

A) PRIOR TO OPENING THE STAGING AREA TO INCOMING VOLUNTEERS

  1. Confirm that all members of your group are present.


  1. Participate in a walk through/orientation of the Staging Area with all Staging Area staff.


  1. Assemble at your assigned Staging Area station(s).


  1. Inventory your station(s).


  1. Based on these inventories, if any equipment is missing, write these on a list and submit this to the Staging Area Group Supervisor so he/she may request replacements.


  1. Rehearse at your station(s).


  1. Notify the Staging Area Group Supervisor when you are ready to receive incoming volunteers.


B) AFTER OPENING THE STAGING AREA TO THE PUBLIC

  1. Announce to ALL incoming volunteers:

  • Please be prepared to show your valid and current photo identification.”

  • If you have a valid and current Nevada healthcare provider license, please be prepared to show that too.”


  1. Screen out those people who do not have photo ID (or have invalid ID) and direct them to the nearest exit.


  1. Announce to all incoming volunteers:

  • For anyone not having valid and current photo identification, we would like to thank you for offering to help but we need to ask you to please exit from the Personnel and Volunteer Staging Area now.”

  • For anyone who becomes problematic after being turned away, call in security to assist you (if needed).


  1. Ask those people who do have valid photo ID:

  • Are you a pre-registered volunteer?”

Examples of pre-registered volunteers are those who are members of:

  • American Red Cross (ARC)

  • Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

  • Medical Reserve Corps (MRC)

  • Washoe County/Government Employees

  • Only pre-registered volunteers should be allowed to work during the POD unless you are otherwise instructed by your Staging Area Group Supervisor.


  1. Direct and assist with personnel and volunteers signing in.


  1. Hand out vests and other materials such as staff packets, clipboards and pens, and hand-held radios as appropriate for each person’s job needs.


DEMOBILIZATION

  1. Help with the demobilization of your team:

  • Repack your supplies

  • Ensure these repacked supplies are consolidated in a central location as directed by the Staging Area Group Supervisor

  • Help with clean-up for your area


  1. Sign out.


  1. Attend the POD ‘Hotwash’ as directed.
