  1. Confirm Agenda

Meeting convened at 3:25 and agenda was confirmed.

  1. Minutes from Last Meeting (10/9/18, 11/13/18 Meetings)

Minutes from the last two meetings were reviewed and approved.

  1. Introduce Natalie Nagthall

Guest Natalie Nagthall, one of our Southern Regional Coordinators, was introduced and told us a bit about her role in supporting GP work at colleges in the Southern California region. She explained that regional coordinators will look to detect any themes emerging from colleges’ GP work (e.g., resistance to change) and relay that back to the CCCCO, as well as elevating best practices, and pairing colleges together for GP work as needed.

The GPS team members all introduced themselves to N. Nagthall and explained their roles.

We shared with N. Nagthall West’s GP structure and charge, and explained the GP work West has done so far (e.g., Faculty FIG, Cross-Functional Team, recent institutionalization as Task Force, etc.)

N. Nagthall mentioned some town halls conducted by Saddleback College in its GP work.

  1. AACC Scaling Institute Report Out

H. Bailey-Hofmann reported out from the AACC Scaling Institute in San Diego the last week of November, and the planned district-level GP work coordination going forward.

  1. GP Task Force 12-5 Meeting Debrief

The Task Force meeting was well attended; all consistent groups were represented

once again. The collaboration work was useful. There was unanimous agreement at

Task Force meeting that all members should come to as many meetings as possible to speed work. N. Nagthall asked to be copied on meeting minutes, and offered to

attend as needed. A. Lyles shared that in her discussion group, they talked about the assumption that committee work is shared out, but oftentimes this communication doesn’t happen. She is thinking that direct contact with committees may be more effective than individual work with chairs. GPS members felt that the data shared at Task Force Meeting 2 was well-received.

Agenda items for next Taskforce meeting (Feb. 6):

  • Town Hall meeting idea

  • How to possibly fund Growth Mindset/Habits of Mind PD work with Pathways $

  • Share more data?

  • Share the protocol and the protocol work done by GPS on Feb. 5

  • Program Mapper updates as applicable

  1. GP Protocol from Al Solano

The team discussed the protocol and found it would be a useful tool to evaluate our GP work to date and help us prepare our GP Work Plan update that N. Nagthall says will be due to the CCCCO in May 2019. The team decided to spend an hour on Feb. 5 working together on coding our Work Plan per the protocol themes and to share our work with the Task Force at the Feb. 6 meeting.

  1. January Meeting

The team members discussed whether or not we should have a January meeting. We thought that most of the navigators are off assignment in January. HBH will check with MJ Apigo and report back to navigators but we did not schedule a January GPS meeting.

  1. Website and Newsletter Updates, if applicable (Anthony)

A Cuomo reported that his website training has been delayed until January.

  1. Meeting Dates

The next GPS meeting is Feb. 6, 2019, 3:15 – 5:15.

  1. Items from Around Table

A Lyles asked, what is the process after she meets with all the chairs about Curriculum? Who will have the final say on these matters?—GPS team, Task Force, Senate, or whom? She wants direction.

N.Nagthall asked the team: What is your major challenge moving into 2019 in West’s GP work?

Mentioned were: bringing in student services more, looking at what pieces of Pathways are working and not working, evaluating these pieces as we go, adapting our Work plan as we evaluate, and how much we will learn just by loading the Program Mapper.

The meeting ended at 4:50 pm.
