Abstract

This document contains the selection procedure that will be followed by the IEEE 802.11bd Task Group. Once adopted, this document will be executed and followed by the IEEE 802.11bd Task Group to allow the body to adopt Draft 1.0 of IEEE 802.11bd. After adoption of Draft 1.0, the typical IEEE 802.11 Working Group balloting process will begin.

Unless specified otherwise, the votes referenced in this selection procedure require a 75% TG approval (i.e. affirmative votes from 75% of the 802.11 voting members present during the voting that vote either YES or NO).

  1. The TG may change the selection procedure with a motion at 75% approval vote.

  2. The TG shall adopt, through a 75% approval vote, a Functional Requirements document that must be met by the proposed specification.

    1. The Functional Requirements document may be modified at any time by a 75% approval vote.

  3. The TG shall create a Specification Framework document that outlines the main functional blocks of the proposed specification.

    1. The Specification Framework document shall be created by incorporating individual functional blocks (technical submissions) that have been approved by a 75% approval vote.

      1. The creation of the Specification Framework document is not dependent on completion of the Functional Requirements document.

      2. Development of the sections of the Specification Framework document related to 5.9 GHz band is not dependent on the development of the sections of the Specification Framework document related to other bands including 60 GHz.

    2. The Specification Framework document may be modified at any time withby a motion at 75% approval vote

    3. The TG editor is responsible for maintaining the Specification Framework document

  1. The TG editor is responsible for maintaining the 802.11bd Draft Spec document (this the text of the Draft 1.0 Amendment).

    1. The spec text development for 5.9 GHz band may proceed without dependency on spec text development for other bands including 60 GHz.

    2. The 802.11bd Draft Spec document shall be created by incorporating individual spec text contributions that have been approved by a 75% approval vote

    3. In case of multiple contributions addressing the same spec framework elements, task group straw-polling and Motions will guide the editor regarding which Spec Text Contribution to use

    4. The 802.11bd Draft Spec document may be modified at any time by a 75% approval vote

  2. The selection procedure terminates when a motion stating: ‘The 802.11bd Draft Spec document is complete and coherent enough for WG Letter Ballot” is approved by a 75% approval vote.

    1. The TG may decide by motion to terminate the selection process and remove text related to operation in bands other than 5.9 GHz if the specification text development for 5.9 GHz is complete and the timeline for completion of the specification text for operation in other bands results in a delay of more than 4 months in initiation of WG Letter Ballot.

  3. The TG may decide to conduct an internal TG review and comment process, before the document is sent out to WG Letter Ballot.
