Brent Bennett’s Bio

Brent has been a coach for the Covington Galaxy since the club’s inception in 2006. He started as an assistant coach to the first boy’s U10 academy team and has continued to be a successful part of the program.

Brent currently holds a USSF National “D” license and coaches the boys U14 Select team in addition to his duties as the Voluntary Director of Coaching of the Covington Galaxy. Under his watch the academy/select program has grown from 10 players in 2006 to roughly 80 players in 2009.

A native of Arima, Trinidad, he holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from James Madison University (1995) and a Master of Human Resources Management from Keller Graduate School of Management (2001).

While at JMU, Brent was a leading performer during one of the top periods in JMU soccer history.  JMU compiled a 73-12-5 (.839) record during his four seasons (1991-94) in the program and won Colonial Athletic Association titles and played in the NCAA tournament during each of his last three seasons.

The 1994 Dukes reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament, and he was first-team All-America (national coaches association), All-South and All-CAA that season.  He completed his career with 41 goals in 81 games and still is second in team history in goals and third in points (99).  His 16 game-winning career goals rank second all-time at JMU.

In 1993 he was the CAA player of the year, second-team All-America and first-team all-region and all-conference, and in 1992 he was second-team All-CAA.  JMU was 17-3-1 in 1991, 17-4-1 in 1992, 19-2-1 in 1993 and 20-3-2 in 1994 when the Dukes set a team record for victories in a season.

Brent was inducted in the James Madison University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007. He lives in Covington with his wife Nyasha and three boys, Jabari, Jelani and Jalen.
