Assisting in work familiarisation of new members of staff, supervising and managing day-to-day activities and performance management responsibility of other teaching assistants.

Essential Requirements

Education and Experience

  1. Experience in leading and organising activities with children or young people (in a paid or unpaid capacity)

  2. Must hold a minimum level 2* qualification in play work, early years or related discipline and be willing to work towards a level 3 qualification in play work.

(* if the postholder is to be solely responsible for the children it is expected that they will have a relevant level 3 qualification or above)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Ability to organise a programme of activities for children in play, recreational and educational activities and engage children in play.

  2. To be able to supervise and manage others on a daily basis.

  3. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team and form good relationships with other colleagues and children.

  4. Ability to maintain confidentiality over matters relating to the school, with pupils, staff or parents.

  5. To be able to take charge of groups of children setting and maintain acceptable behavioural standards.

  6. To be able to ensure the health and safety of all pupils at all times and following process for reporting incidents.

  7. Ability to stay calm, be patient and understanding when dealing with the children dealing fairly and consistently with issues.

  8. Ability to work with minimum supervision but within well defined guidelines.

  9. Ability to adhere to and implement the School’s Equal Opportunities Policy.

  10. To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school
