Lesson 72: The Battle of Britain and the Blitz


When the Luftwaffe failed to win the Battle of Britain, Hitler decided on a different tactic to try to invade Britain. It was called Operation Sea Lion and it involved bombing every major city in Britain from September to October 1940. London was the worst hit and what became known as the Blitz was when London was bombed every day or night from 7 September 1940 to 11 May 1941. It was Hitler’s way of trying to destroy the morale of the British people as well as to destroy British industry.
