(There are alternative templates and instructions for one & two day events).
10/08/2014
Double click on “Officer of the day -Documents” Icon on the Desktop
Click on the “Race Templates” folder.
Select Template you require:
Either “Saturday GH Series Single Race Template”, “Saturday PH Series Single Race Template” or “Sunday GH Series Single Race Template” for weekly GH or PH Series results
Or: “Thursday Twilight Series GH Template” or “Thursday Twilight Series Pursuit Template”
Or: “SoloTemplate” “RSTemplate” or “CometTemplate” if Class race
For example:
Click “File” and then select “Save Series As” from the drop down menu.
The template needs saving as a file, which we can then put specific results in to. This will mean that the template is not overwritten. To do this:-
Navigate to the correct folder ie. “Saturday Series Races”, “Trophy Events”, etc within OOD and Documents folders then:
Insert Series name, date and time of race:
eg. WS08Sat11am (todays date ie2611), WS08Sat1245pm2611, WS08Sat230pm2611, WS08Sun1115amSolo2611, WS08Sun1300pm2611 or MSS08Sat11am0706, 4S09Sat1245pm0708, Twilight0405 etc
Click “Save”
The file is now ready for results to be added.
Click on “Sail num Wizard” tab
Ensure that “ HelmName” is selected in the Field box then click “Next”
Enter Initial letter of Helm Surname
Highlight correct helm then “Next”
Enter elapsed time using decimal point between minutes and seconds. Also enter the full number of complete laps using the up/down arrows in the “Laps” window. Then click “Finish” or press “Enter” on the keyboard.
(For Pursuit races use the “Place or retirement code” option and enter the helms finishing place rather than an elapsed time)
For codes such as “DNF” or “DSQ”, use the drop down arrow at end of box and select appropriate code.
Repeat this for all helms that took part in the race.
It is not necessary to enter the “Laps” each time as this number is copied automatically from the first entry. BUT - for any competitors who did not sail the full number of laps alter their “Laps” accordingly using the up/down arrows. (Sailwave will automatically “average-up” the corrected times for those competitors.)
If a Helm is not listed, type the helm’s name accurately, surname first, then click the “New” button to the right.* The name will appear in the window beneath. Highlight the name there, click “Next” and enter the result as described above.
When you have finished entering all results, close the wizard to add the newly added helms’ boat/crew details
as described on page 6.
*(Alternatively you can mark missing helms on the race sheet as helms to come back to and fix later, after the listed helms’ results have been entered. Close the wizard and follow the procedure below. Then enter the additional helms’ results.)
To add a new helm to a General Handicap race, follow steps starting at “GH” below:
(If it’s a Personal Handicap template, follow the steps starting at “PH”)
GH: Adding a New Helm to a General Handicap Template
Click “New (competitor)” tab. (Far left of Menu bar)
This produces a new line on main screen.
Double click on the new line under the “HelmName” column
This produces a new information box below:
Enter Class (from drop down menu or manually), Sail no, helm/ crew details (surname first) and PY, then “OK”.
PH: Adding a New Helm to a Personal Handicap Template
As before, Click the “New (competitor)” tab. (Far left of Menu bar)
This produces a new line on the main screen.
Double click on the new line under the “HelmName” column (This produces a new information box)
Enter Class (from drop down menu or manually), Sail no, helm and crew details (surname first).
If using the drop-down menu, the boat PY will appear in the “PN + PH” box.
Do not click OK yet.
Write the boat PY again, manually into the “Club PN” box.
And the helm’s PH in the “PH” box
Now add the PN & PH values together.
(In this case 1117 + 60 = 1177)
And write this number into the “PN + PH” box (over-writing the number currently there)
Click “OK”
It is worth checking that automatic look-up of PYs is NOT set, as this will result in all the “PN + PH” figures being overwritten by the boats’ PNs when “Score Series” is used. The results will end up being a normal GH race and not a PH race.
To check that automatic look-up of PY is NOT set:
C lick on “Scoring System” at top of screen.
An “Edit Scoring System” window will appear. - Click on the “Rating System” tab.
Make sure there is no tick in the “Auto set competitor ratings” box.
Now Go back to Sail num wizard and complete timings.
Close wizard window once complete.
If an added helm’s details need to be added or a helm is sailing a boat with different sail number or of different class to the one listed, the PY and/or sail number need to be amended. Double click on helm name to open box, Amend sail number, class and PY as required - then “Ok”)
Once all details complete, click on “Score Series” tab on bottom line of toolbar options.
Click on “Score Series” Box.
This will give you the results but with lots of unsailed competitiors.
Click on “Edit” along menu bar, then select “Mark all unsailed competitors as excluded” from drop down menu.
Next Click Toolbar Icon
to hide excluded competitiors
This should provide a neat list of your race results.
Select “File” from menu bar, then “Save Series” or “Save” tab from drop down menu.
If you have to go back and amend any data, you can click on “Rescore” to rework results.
(It is also possible to amend timings by double clicking in the timing result box for a competitor, which will bring up the appropriate box).
The most likely mistakes are likely to be PY errors due to helms changing boats/ rigs. Check carefully as it can distort all results!
Data entry and results are now complete for this race!
Repeat the procedure for each race of the day if Series racing. You will need to open the same template each time, give it a new filename (as on first page) and insert any new competitors for each race.
To Print results:
Click on “Publish”
Select “Results”
(Box below should appear)
Click on “Provisional” box and ensure “Publish individual race tables” box is ticked and “Publish a series summary table” is not ticked” then click “Next”
Above box should appear. Select “Default” and “An installed application” as shown above then Click on “MS Excel” box, then “Publish” and results should appear in Excel format for printing. (You may need to adjust print area and layout within Excel)
Now you need to Email each Sailwave file to Mike, Paul or Rick to be uploaded onto Website.
