The citizens of this nation live in freedom won through the great sacrifice and many tribulations which have provided the foundation for a free, prosperous and independent life; and

Whereas, The United States Army was established by the First Continental Congress on the
14th of June, 1775; and


Whereas, The United States Army exists as the strength of our nation to defend the freedom of our citizens and our nation’s security interests; and


Whereas, Many present and former citizens of Mesquite have served our nation and sacrificed in defense of our freedoms, as Soldiers in the United States Army; and


Whereas, It is proper to recognize the United States Army annually on its birthday, and to thank those who have served and those who are presently serving.


Now, therefore, I, John Monaco, Mayor of the City of Mesquite, do hereby proclaim
June 14, 2009, as,


“UNITED STATES ARMY DAY”


in the City of Mesquite and urge all citizens to join with me in this salute as we express our gratitude to those who have served and those who are now serving to protect our nation and freedoms.
