Spain announces a contribution of 36 million euros in the Cairo Conference on Palestine for the reconstruction of Gaza.
The Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Ibero-America, Jesús Gracia, announced on the 12th of October in the Conference on Palestine which was celebrated in Cairo that the Spanish contribution for Palestine will be of 36 million euros for the period between 2014-2017. From this ammount, at least 50% will be aimed to the reconstruction of Gaza.
The Spanish contribution will be channeled in colaboration with the palestinian institutions, the NGOs, the UNRWA and the Euro-Palestinian Mechanism for Socio-economic Management (PEGASE).
During 2014, the contribution of the Spanish Cooperation, through the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), will consist of 7.8 million euros aproximately. From this amount, the UNRWA will receive one million euros which will be especially directed to the refugees in Gaza, in addition to the one already sent this July.
The Spanish Cooperation, through the AECID, has contributed with a total of 3,178,000 euros up to date in response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Spain maintains historical ties of strong solidarity with the Palestinian people, and has been one of the main donors in terms of Official Help for Development (AOD), which sums a total of 600 million euros since 2005.
